Windows 11 will be released later this year, anytime between October and November 2021 (holidays). If you have a Windows 10 PC, Microsoft says you may upgrade for free, and new PCs with Windows 11 pre-installed will be available in time for the holidays.
Go to Windows.com and download the PC Health Check app to see if your PC is qualified for the free Windows 11 update. Some people will not be waiting until the end of the year to try out Windows 11.
Next week, Microsoft expects to release an early preview of the software upgrade to members of its Windows Insider Program. However, this will not be a comprehensive release with all of Windows 11’s capabilities.
Windows 11 design: New design and Start menu
Windows 11 features a fresh style and feel that is intended to be both more appealing and user-friendly. A new Start button has been added to the center of the screen, and hitting it will display your recent files, documents, and programmes.
Instead of a large list of apps, the Start menu now features a grid of choose applications and a second grid of recommended papers. An “All Apps” button will most likely take you to the usual app list.
The overall idea is to go where you want to go as quickly as possible.
The new Windows 11 also has a simplified taskbar and more rounded corners on apps to make it look more modern. There are also new colors and transitions, as well as a new dark mode that highlights content.

Windows 11 Snap Layouts, Snap Groups and docking
Snap Layouts are now available in Windows 11. You can choose the Snap Layout you wish to use so that you can run numerous apps at once. You could, for example, have two apps side by side, three in columns, or four in a grid, for a total of six options.
If you ever get disoriented after responding to a notice, Windows 11 features a new Snap Groups feature in the taskbar that can help. So you can return to whatever you were doing before you had to respond to that message.
It’s the same with the new docking experience. When you unplug a monitor to move rooms, the windows on the monitor will shrink. When you return and reconnect to a dock, all of your Windows will reappear in their previous state.
Windows 11 widgets
Widgets are a new feature in Windows 11, and they are driven by Microsoft Edge and AI. These widgets allow you to quickly check your calendar, weather, news, to-do list, photos, and more.
Widgets provide you with a customizable information feed that you may arrange on your desktop in any way you choose. Widgets can slide out to cover a section or the entire desktop, depending on your needs.
Windows 11: Better touch, pen and voice support
Input in Windows 11 has been tweaked in a variety of ways, notably when it comes to touch. In the touch bar, for example, there is greater space between icons, making it easier to tap the correct item. To that goal, Microsoft is introducing larger touch targets as well as visual clues to make resizing and moving windows easier.
The onscreen keyboard has been updated and made more customizable. If you interact with your Windows 11 system using a pen or stylus, you can anticipate improved haptics that sound and feel like you’re using an actual pen.
Microsoft promises more accurate voice-to-text transcription and automated punctuation in Windows 11, as well as improved voice recognition for text input. When you’re in a document, you can also use voice commands like “remove that.”
Windows 11 desktops
You may now personalize different desktops with their own wallpapers in Windows 11. As a result, you can have a desktop for work, home, education, or gaming, each with its own set of apps and appearance.
Windows 11 gaming: Auto HDR and DirectStorage
Gaming has always been an important element of Windows, and Windows 11 is no exception. Microsoft is adding several new capabilities in its operating system that are intended primarily at boosting the gaming experience.
Auto HDR is coming to Windows 11, allowing app developers to boost contrast and color output without having to rewrite their games. Microsoft demonstrated a split screen of Skyrim during the Windows 11 launch event, with one half of the game in SDR and the other in the new Auto HDR. The Auto HDR image was noticeably brighter and more detailed.
A DirectStorage API is also included in Windows 11. You’ll notice a difference in load times if you’ve used an Xbox Series X or Series S, both of which have direct storage.
Finally, Xbox Game Pass, Microsoft’s gaming subscription service, will continue to be available through the Xbox app on Windows 11.
Windows 11: Teams integration
Despite the fact that many Microsoft apps will no longer be included as standard in Windows 11, Microsoft is striving to make Teams considerably more mainstream by incorporating it directly into Windows 11. Microsoft Teams chat allows you to communicate via video calls, text, or voice. It will function on Windows, Android, and iOS (although FaceTime will only work over web links and will not have an app). Alternatively, you can start presenting right from the taskbar.
Windows 11: New Windows Store and Android Apps
Microsoft is overhauling the Microsoft Store with Windows 11, making it faster and easier to find the apps you want. That’s all well and good, but the announcement that Android apps would be immediately available for Windows 11 is likely to get the most attention.
Microsoft claims you’ll be able to find Android apps in the Microsoft Store and download them through the Amazon App store later this year. At this time, the procedure appears to be a little complicated, but Microsoft has promised to release more details about the experience in the coming months.
Windows 11: System requirements and TPM
For Windows 11, all systems will need a TPM 2.0 chip. TPM is short for Trusted Point Module, and it’s primarily known as a means for security in PCs. We have a guide to check for how to see if your PC has a TPM chip.
According to Microsoft, these are the system requirements for running Windows 11:
- CPU: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster with 2 or more cores on a compatible 64-bit processor or System on a Chip (SoC)
- RAM: 4GB
- Storage: 64GB of larger
- System firmware: UEFI, Secure Boot capable
- TPM: Trusted Platform Module (TPM) version 2.0
- Graphics card: Compatible with DirectX 12 or later with WDDM 2.0 driver
- Display: High definition (720p) display that is greater than 9” diagonally, 8 bits per color channel
- Internet: Windows 11 Home edition requires internet connectivity and a Microsoft account to complete device setup on first use.
Windows 11 outlook
Overall, Windows 11 doesn’t feel like a reimagining of Windows, but it does appear to be a bigger leap forward in terms of productivity and entertainment (particularly gaming) than macOS Monterey. The new multitasking features and the revamped Start menu are very appealing to us. Stay tuned for our Windows 11 hands-on impressions.
We’ll update this section once we get hold of more Information.
