CD Projekt Red’s Perspective on Cyberpunk 2077: A First-Person Immersive Experience

CD Projekt Red’s Perspective on Cyberpunk 2077

During the CD Projekt Red Investor Day presentation, Paweł Sasko, the quest director for Cyberpunk 2077, addressed the decision to make the game a first-person experience and the possibility of a different perspective for its sequel, codenamed Orion.

CD Projekt Red, known for their hugely successful third-person Witcher franchise, does not regret their choice to make Cyberpunk 2077 a first-person game. Despite the shift in perspective, the developers stand by their decision and believe that the first-person view will create a more immersive experience for players.

Sasko acknowledged that the decision to make Cyberpunk 2077 a first-person game was driven by their goal of creating a highly immersive and visceral experience for players. By putting them directly in the shoes of the protagonist, V, the developers hope to make players feel more connected to the world and the narrative of the game.

The implementation of a first-person perspective presented its own set of challenges for the development team. Sasko mentioned that they had to devote significant effort to ensure that the gameplay, gunplay, and navigation felt smooth and natural from a first-person point of view. However, the feedback from playtesters has been largely positive, with players enjoying the first-person perspective and feeling immersed in the Cyberpunk 2077 world.

While Cyberpunk 2077 is primarily a first-person game, Sasko hinted at the possibility of switching to a third-person perspective in certain instances. This could involve specific cutscenes or interactions, allowing players to see their character from a different angle. The idea of incorporating some third-person moments into the primarily first-person game could provide players with a fresh perspective and add variety to the gameplay experience.

A Commitment to Player Choice

Despite the first-person perspective, CD Projekt Red remains committed to providing players with choice and agency in their games. In Cyberpunk 2077, players will have the ability to fully customize their protagonist, V, and the choices they make throughout the game will have an impact on the overall narrative and outcome.

CD Projekt Red wants players to feel like they’re truly playing as V, a fully-realized character with their own personality and motivations. The first-person perspective complements this role-playing experience as it allows players to see the game world through V’s eyes, helping them to feel more immersed in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe.

Sasko emphasized that the first-person perspective does not limit the storytelling in Cyberpunk 2077. CD Projekt Red has put a considerable amount of effort into crafting a rich and immersive narrative that will engage players throughout their journey. The developer’s commitment to providing impactful choices and consequences ensures that players’ decisions will shape their own unique experience within the game.

Cyberpunk 2: The Perspective Conundrum

While Cyberpunk 2077 embraces the first-person perspective, there is no confirmation on the perspective for its sequel, known as Cyberpunk 2 or codenamed Orion. During the presentation, Sasko revealed that the development team has yet to make a decision regarding the perspective for the next installment in the franchise.

The uncertainty surrounding the perspective for Cyberpunk 2 leaves room for speculation and discussion among fans. Will the sequel continue to utilize the first-person perspective, or will CD Projekt Red.
