Google has announced the introduction of its Search Generative Experience (SGE) feature, which will enable users to create images directly from a text prompt. This move is reminiscent of Microsoft’s Bing Chat feature, which has been using OpenAI’s DALL-E model since March to generate images based on text prompts. SGE is available to users who opt into Google’s Search Labs program.

To make use of the SGE feature, users simply need to type their query into the Google search bar after opting in. SGE will then generate a few images based on the text prompt provided. Google spokesperson Craig Ewer stated that the tool is powered by the Imagen family of AI models.

Google demonstrated the capabilities of SGE in a GIF, showcasing how the tool can be used to create images based on a prompt like “draw an image of a capybara.” This feature offers users a convenient way to generate visual content that corresponds to their specific queries.

While Microsoft was the first to implement a similar feature, it is not surprising to see Google follow suit. Both companies are recognizing the potential of AI in generating images and enhancing the search experience for users. By incorporating AI models into their search engines, they enable users to access visual representations of their search queries, providing a more comprehensive search experience.
