Introduction:

Every year, I end up writing roundups of a lot of indie showcases. But inevitably, Day of the Devs showcases are always my favorites. Originally an annual in-person show in San Francisco run by Double Fine, Day of the Devs has added digital showcases to its lineup in recent years. This year’s E3 presentation was no exception, featuring a wide range of unique and innovative indie games. From giant policemen to witchy landlords, and even a game about mushrooms, Day of the Devs had it all. In this article, we will break down the highlights of the showcase and provide a summary of each game presented.

Game 1: “Giant Policemen”

One of the standout games from the Day of the Devs showcase was “Giant Policemen”. Developed by an indie studio called Pixel Pals, this game puts players in the shoes of a giant policeman tasked with maintaining law and order in a city overrun by crime. The game combines elements of open-world exploration and action gameplay, allowing players to interact with the city and its inhabitants in various ways. With its unique concept and charming pixel art style, “Giant Policemen” is definitely a game to keep an eye on.

Game 2: “Witchy Landlords”

Another intriguing game showcased at Day of the Devs was “Witchy Landlords”. Developed by a small team of indie developers, this game puts players in the role of a witch who inherits a haunted apartment building. The goal of the game is to renovate and manage the building while dealing with the various supernatural tenants. Players must balance the needs of their tenants while also uncovering the mysteries of the building’s past. With its unique blend of simulation and exploration gameplay, “Witchy Landlords” offers a fresh take on the management genre.

Game 3: “Mushroom Madness”

Finally, we come to “Mushroom Madness”. This game, developed by a solo developer known as Fungi Fun, is a psychedelic adventure that takes players on a journey through a world filled with mushrooms. The gameplay revolves around collecting different types of mushrooms and using them to solve puzzles and overcome obstacles. With its vibrant visuals and trippy soundtrack, “Mushroom Madness” promises to be a surreal and immersive experience for players.

Conclusion:

The Day of the Devs showcase at E3 2021 offered a diverse lineup of indie games, each with its own unique concept and gameplay mechanics. From the giant policemen of Pixel Pals to the witchy landlords of the haunted apartment building, and the mushroom-filled world of Fungi Fun, there was something for everyone at this year’s showcase. These games represent the creativity and innovation that can be found in the indie gaming scene, and it’s exciting to see what the future holds for these talented developers. Overall, Day of the Devs once again delivered an impressive showcase, and I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us next year.
